Reflect on beauty

A nice addition to your daily practice is to spend a couple of minutes reflecting on the beauty of everyday life. You can look for beauty in anything you experience, even in the things you might not traditionally consider beautiful. For example, reflect on the beauty in the last argument or fight you had with your partner or friend. In that exchange you were both struggling to find each other, to be heard, to make better contact. You both brought your entire life's history of experience into that exchange so you argument contained the entirety of who you are. You were both trying to get your needs met in the best way you could. You both struggled to do that.

Computer Mindfulness

Set a timer on your computer to beep or ring every hour. When it rings, stop all your activities, bring your attention to your breath and notice if you are breathing deep or shallow, into your abdomen or chest area. Spend approx 2-3 minutes just observing your breath, just as it is, without any interference. After the time has passed, return to your activitiy but remain aware that you are doing so. This mindfulness practice, if practiced daily throughout the day will help to calm and still your mind and de-stress your body.
